2 c. plain flour
2 c. sugar
1 stick butter
1 c. water
1/2 c. Crisco
4 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
Blend flour and sugar in large bowl. In saucepan, add butter,
water, Crisco and cocoa; bring to a fast boil. Pour over flour
and sugar. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Pour into 2
square cake pans and bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
Start icing approximately 10 minutes before cake is done. In
saucepan, add butter, cocoa and milk. Bring to a boil and add
confectioners sugar, vanilla and nuts. When cake is done, empty
from pans and gently pour over cakes.
